How we use your information
This notice covers the solar check and enquiry forms on aerocomsolar.co.za. It explains what we collect, why, who receives it and what you can ask us to do with it under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Last updated 26 October 2026.
Who is responsible
Aerocom Solar (Pty) Ltd (Aerocom Solar), part of Aerocom, 8 Eleventh Ave, Northmead, Benoni, 1501. For any privacy question or request, email info@aerocomsolar.co.za or call +27 21 023 3125.
What we collect and why
- The solar check. The address you search for, the map position of your roof and the roof details you confirm or draw (size, tilt and direction). We use them only to work out an indicative system size, yearly generation and saving. You do not need to give your name or contact details to see an estimate.
- An enquiry or assessment request. Your name, company (if you add one), email address, phone number, street address, monthly electricity spend, preferences and message, together with the estimate and roof details from your check. We use them only to contact you about this enquiry, arrange a technician assessment and prepare a quote.
- Your consent. The wording you agreed to, its version and the time we received it, so we can show what you agreed to.
- Protecting the forms. A spam check runs in your browser as soon as the solar check opens, and our server uses your network address for a short time to limit repeated requests. Our logs record only whether a request worked, never your contact details, address or roof position.
We do not use your information for marketing, we do not sell it, and this site does not use advertising or analytics trackers.
Who receives it
- Aerocom's solar team receives your enquiry by email, with the estimate and roof details, so a consultant can contact you.
- Google (Google Maps Platform, in the United States) receives the address text you type and your roof's map position, to suggest addresses, show the map and return roof and sunshine data for that building.
- PVGIS, the European Commission's solar estimation service in the European Union, receives your roof's position, tilt and direction (never your name or contact details) to calculate a regional estimate.
- A spam-protection service receives your network address and information about your browser and device when the solar check opens, only to tell people apart from automated abuse. It never receives your contact details, address or roof details, and it may process this outside South Africa.
- Service providers who host this website and deliver its email, under contract and only to provide that service.
Sending roof positions and addresses to Google and PVGIS means they are processed outside South Africa. You agree to this when you tick the assessment consent, and you can always ask for a technician assessment instead of an online estimate. The spam check runs for every visitor to the solar check, because the forms cannot be protected without it.
How long we keep it
- Online estimates that you do not turn into an enquiry are not stored with your details. Roof data for a building is cached for up to 30 days, so a repeat check does not need a new lookup.
- Enquiries are stored securely on our server in South Africa and in the solar team's mailbox for as long as we need them to respond, assess your roof, quote and support any installation, and are then deleted. You can ask us to delete your enquiry sooner.
Your rights
You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it. Contact info@aerocomsolar.co.za and we will respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
Keeping it safe
Enquiries are encrypted in transit, stored on a private server with access limited to the people who run the service, and sent to the solar team only. Our broadband customers are covered by the Aerocom privacy policy; this notice applies to the solar website.
